Friends are Like Wine VIP Event at Potek Winery with Habitat for Humanity

So much fun getting together with VIP friends at Potek winery on Leap Day! Appreciated the opportunity to connect everyone with someone new and support our local chapter of Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County.

Susan Renehan, Habitat's director of philanthropy & external affairs and Sophia Roberts, philanthropy coordinator were nonprofit guests of honor.  We are sending a donation thanks to Potek and everyone in attendance.

Susan shared their mission to "produce, preserve and protect housing for affordable home ownership." You may not know that it's not just about brand new construction.  Our local Habitat for Humanity of S. Santa Barbara County also "helps low income home owners in need of safety repairs to their existing homes so they can shelter safely in place or age in place."  They have been doing this work for 24 years, next year they celebrate 25th anniversary.

To learn more, donate or volunteer to celebrate and raise support for their mission, lSusan invited us to get involved in the 2024 DENIM AND DIAMONDS GALA is coming up in May.

Sophia highlighted their Home Repair Program.   They meet homeowners needs where they live, for example roof repairs, pest control, health and safety items.  They are able to bring in volunteers to keep costs low.  It's so great to see whole community pitch in and support locals in need.

Home Repair Program

Habitat's Home Repair program website provides details: grants and help with free critical repairs, modifications, and maintenance for low-income homeowners. Repairs under this program address health, safety, and security issues including accessibility improvements and repairs that support aging in place. The majority of projects are completed by licensed contractors to ensure the highest quality repairs. Smaller scale projects are completed by our skilled volunteers. Requirements include: Have a demonstrated need for critical health and safety repairs, household income must be at or below 80% of the Area Median Income, and of course the home owner must be willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity. For more info in English and Spanish visit Habitat for Humanity Santa Barbara County: https://www.sbhabitat.org/recursos-en-espanol/

Susan also shared Habitat is ramping up efforts to re-open the ReStore - looking for 12,000 square foot space with parking. At that time, they will once again be able to accept donations of gently used furniture and home furnishings, along with surplus building supplies.
